Cat Breeds That Live The Longest

When you are trying to decide which breed of cat is right for your family, you may want to consider one that is known to live a long life. Today, our Middlesex vets talk about Siamese cats, Munchkin cats and other cat breeds that are known to live the longest.

What cat breeds live the longest?

It is quite difficult to determine how long a cat will live, as there are many factors to consider. Nature versus  nurture is a big contributing  factor that can affect certain breeds differently. Underlying conditions and unexpected illness can, of course, alter a cat's life span, which is why getting your older cat regular senior care is so important.

Assuming a cat lives a long and healthy life, our Middlesex vets share 5 of the best cat breeds that tend to have a longer lifespan.

How long do Siamese cats live?

The Siamese cat originated in Thailand (formerly known as Siam), as its name suggests. Because they are social, playful, and entertaining, Siamese cats have become quite popular. The intelligent nature of Siamese cats allows for their training. They can be taught to wear a harness and perform a variety of tricks.

Siamese cats tend to live up to 15 years on average, but it is not unheard of for them to live to be 20 years old.

How long do Balinese cats live?

Some believe the Balinese cat is a Siamese cat descendant. The Balinese and Siamese cats share similar physical characteristics, but their fur differs. The Balinese cat has a longer coat than the Siamese cat. Balinese cats are entertaining pets due to their reputation for being outgoing, affectionate, active, intelligent, agile, and "chatty."

A healthy Balinese cat can live between 18 and 22 years old.

How long do Ragdoll cats live?

The Ragdoll cat is another relatively young  cat breed, dating back to the early 1960s. A Ragdoll cat's long, silky fur is comparable to that of a Persian cat. As its name suggests, a Ragdoll cat is relaxed and easygoing, and it can become limp when picked up, just like a ragdoll. Ragdoll cats are extremely social, even with strangers. Additionally, they are gentle and enjoy lounging around the house.

Despite their soft look, these cats are quite the tough and healthy breed that can live up to 15-25 years.
