Puppies and kittens should have their first veterinary appointment at six to eight weeks old.
At this first visit with us, your pet will have a complete physical examination conducted to assess their overall health. In addition to this, we will examine them for external parasites and congenital defects to make sure they are starting out on the right foot.
We may administer deworming medications for roundworms and hookworms, and the first round of puppy or kitten vaccinations.
Finally, for kittens, we will perform a blood test to check for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus.
Your kitten or puppy should visit a veterinary hospital 3 to 4 times between the ages of 6 and 16 weeks. These visits and check-ins with our vets allow us to keep a close eye on your young pet's health and growth as well as allows us to administer their required vaccines on schedule.
